That ad about 'losing 30 pounds with so-and-so plan' is deceiving you.

August 3, 2016

We've all seen the ads: 'Amazing Product! Lose 30 pounds in a month with our patented program!'

Yeah, it's garbage.

These companies are more concerned with taking your money and selling you snake oil than they are in your actual health. Real health is not a one-size-fits-all approach; There's no miracle pill you can take to lose weight or solve issues with your body. Being the best you can be takes a hell of a lot of work, commitment, and sometimes working with someone who really knows the ins and outs of what it means to return the human body to a state of homeostasis.

"But wait" you say, "I've been through one of these programs, and it totally worked!"

"Did it change your life, or did you fall back into patterns?"

The answer to that question is almost always that long-term, a person's health returns to the state it was in before. One of the most ridiculous bits of misdirection these companies use, is the almost always provided 'healthy eating' program. 'Combine our product with this diet plan.' Right? Yeah. That's the catch; that's the grudge. More often than not, these 'diet plans' are nothing more than caloric restriction (debunked, unhealthy; fasting now and then is alright) and the buzzword equivalent 'healthy foods' of the moment.

Caloric restriction in and of itself is simply going to cause your body to bounce back once it is ceased; in the meantime, you're losing out on a lot of micronutrients and potentially the proper macronutrients by not consuming enough food to keep your body in good condition.

They won't ever look at you as a person with health problems; they will always look at you as a dollar sign. They won't dig, use scientific method or tailor an all-encompassing program specifically for you.

Health is more than a pill. Weight loss is more than restricting portion size. Don't be fooled by the man in the wagon with his bottled miracles.
